Movement Substitution & Scaling

Two ways off a movement you can't do today: move along its progression to a rung you can hold, or swap it for something that takes the same time.

How this works

Everything is scaled to take about the same total time, so the rep count follows the pace, not the difficulty — a quick scale earns more reps, a slow controlled one earns fewer. Click any pace field to enter what you've actually clocked; it saves on this device.

Substitutes are ranked on stimulus — implement, prime mover, load and cycle time — which is why a front squat stands in for a push jerk. Ladder order is hand-set, not derived.

Engine ratios and Mayhem sub lines come from CrossFit Mayhem's published Scaling & Movement Substitution Guide; pull and hanging-core paces are calibrated to reproduce its rep numbers. Paces marked est are derived from family and modifiers, not hand-set.
